Rules
Students are not allowed to use their baton as a weapon. If a student is caught using their baton in this manner, the baton will be taken away from the student. We are asking that students have some type of bag to carry their baton in while riding the bus. The bag can be a book bag, homemade bag, or a baton case. This prevents other students from taking the baton and assures that the baton will not be rolling around the bus.

We ask that student wear clothing that is appropriate for twirling. Appropriate clothing consists of pants/shorts (that allow for movement), T-shirt/sweatshirts (that are not extremely baggy), and tennis shoes. Most daily wear skirts and dresses are either too short or tighter than majorette dresses and do not allow for the student to stretch properly. Dress shoes including clogs also limit the amount of participation. These types of shoes are dangerous to the students as they will be learning turns and spins. Twirling shoes are available for purchase, but they are not necessary.

Students need to either bring a snack from home or wait until after practice to purchase food from the vending machines. The vending machine takes up a lot of time when all the students want to use it. Therefore, we are asking students not to use it at all until practice is over. We also that snacks be something that the students can eat quickly. The students usually have about ten minutes before 4 o'clock to eat their snack.

We are asking that students/parents let Alisha McCardel know as soon as possible if the student will not performing in the recital. Routines are constructed for a set number of students. If a student cannot attend at the last minute if makes it difficult on the rest of class to adjust in a small amount of time.

We are asking that parents pick students up in the band room lobby at 5:15. All students will be brought down to the band room in time to be picked up.

Please encourage your child to practice what they have learned. This helps to build confidence and good learning skills. Just like any other sport or skill, baton must be practiced in order to improve. This also helps the group to improve.

If at any time you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact Debby or Alisha at 427-3549 or email Alisha at alisha@mccardel.net
